After nearly a full week of severe winds keeping us tied to the dock for almost seven days straight, it sure felt good to get Miss Penny back out where she belongs. As frustrating as that stretch of weather was, the wind must have done us a favor, because the fishing has been great since we got back on the water.
We are still getting shots at sailfish on just about every single 3/4 day and full day trip, which has been really exciting to see. Any time you can head offshore with a legitimate chance at a sailfish, it makes for a special day, and that action has stayed impressively consistent.
The yellowtail snapper fishing has also been as good as it gets. We’ve been putting together beautiful catches, and the quality has been outstanding. When the conditions line up and the yellowtails are chewing like this, it makes for steady action and some seriously happy anglers.
One of the standout catches from these trips was a keeper cobia. That is always a special fish for us. Cobia are a rarer fish than many of the species we target regularly, and every one we catch feels like a blessing. To put a keeper cobia on deck made an already strong couple of days even better.
Overall, it has been a great rebound after losing so much time to the weather. Between the sailfish opportunities, excellent yellowtail snapper fishing, and the bonus keeper cobia, April 6th and 7th reminded us that sometimes a rough weather stretch can set the stage for some really rewarding fishing.
